Stephen Alexander Oliver was born in Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom on Feb. 6th 1981. At the age of one year he moved to Calgary, Alberta with his family. Here he went to school and was involved in many sports such as soccer and karate.

At David Thompson Junior High he took up band. He played tuba and eventually started playing bass in the jazz band. Bass soon became his love and he mastered it with ease. He continued playing through high school at Lord Beaverbrook. Outside of school he joined a band called Formula 47.

Steve was very popular amongst his peers, never having trouble making friends. He was always there to lend a helping hand and share a laugh. Although a "nice guy" he was definetly no push over and always stood up for himself and friends. After high school he joined the reserves of the Canadian Army and was a member of the King's own Regiment. After a couple of years he went to Bosnia for seven months with PPCLI (Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry). While there he decided that the army life was for him and he decided to join up full time. When back in Canada he went away to New Brunswick to take a Combat Engineers course. This is where he met Leah Jennine Oliver. They began dating and luckily at the end of the course were both posted in Edmonton, Alberta. They shared an apartment close to the base and had a cat named Joey.
